Dear Honourable Member of UK Parliament / Lord:
Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) is an international human rights advocacy group with offices in Canada, UK and USA. It is our honour to invite you to attend an important event - the “London Declaration” – scheduled for 12 August 2018, in Trafalgar Square, London.
By way of background, SFJ is spearheading the campaign for Sikhs to obtain their right to self-determination, through the establishment of Khalistan – an independent country (currently Punjab, India). In furtherance of this objective, SFJ will hold a non-binding referendum in 2020, inviting Sikhs throughout the world to vote for (or against) an independent homeland. The London Declaration will kick-off this process.
As you may be aware, the right to self-determination is one of the fundamental rights of all ‘peoples’ guaranteed in the UN Charter, the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights. For peoples who have been persecuted and subjugated within their own state, the creation of a separate state is a legitimate means of ensuring the right to self-determination. Indeed, it may be the only way.
We anticipate that thousands of Sikhs from the UK, Europe, North America and Australia will attend the London Declaration to offer their support, including many within your constituency. We hope that you will lend support to their aspirations by attending the event
