Subject: Khalistan Is a Political Opinion NOT Extremism
Honourable Member Parliament:
Subject : 2018 Public Report on the Terrorist Threat to Canada || Khalistan Is a Political Opinion NOT Extremism
My name is ___________. I am a member of Canadian Sikh Community.
I am writing to express my concern about Government of Canada’s “2018 Public Report on Terrorist Threat to Canada” released by Honourable Ralph Goodale, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness which incorrectly and unfairly identifies “Sikh (Khalistani) Extremism” as one of the five major domestic terrorist threats to Canada.
It is an incontrovertible fact that Khalistan is a political opinion which cannot be equated with extremism or violence.
Human Right advocacy group “Sikhs For Justice” (SFJ) has written a letter to Prime Minister Trudeau and Minister Goodale reiterating the stance that Khalistan is purely a political opinion and by subscribing to Khalistan, Canadian Sikhs neither become extremist, nor a threat but only exercise the freedom of opinion guaranteed by the Canadian Charter of Rights. See SFJ’s communique at: https://referendum2020.org/download/document/sfj-to-canada-govt_khalistan-is-not-extremism.pdf
Honorable Member, I believe that Sikh people have a right of self determination under international law. See the report on Sikhs Right of Self Determination by Global Diligence at: https://referendum2020.org/download/document/annex-a-global-diligence-report-on-sikh-right-to-self-determination.pdf
I join SFJ in calling upon the Government of Canada to amend the said report and remove the section that identifies “Sikh (Khalistni) Extremism” and issue a formal retraction.
As my representative, I urge you to immediately take notice of this issue and convey my concern to the Government of Canada against labeling" Khalistan"as "Extremism"and expect you to support Sikh peoples right of self-determination in accordance with Canadian values of democracy and human Right for all.
